Arc-fault + overcurrent in one 36 mm module
The A9TDF3610 is a Schneider Electric Acti9 iCV40N ARC — a combined arc-fault detection device (AFDD) and miniature circuit breaker in a single 1P+N, 36 mm wide DIN-rail module. It carries a 10 A rated current with a C-curve magnetic trip (5–10 x In) and a 6 kA Icn / 10 kA Icu breaking capacity at 230 V AC, 50 Hz, per EN/IEC 61009-2-1 and EN/IEC 60947-2. The arc-fault detection is the primary differentiator here: it monitors for the high-frequency signature of a series or parallel arc (e.g., a loose terminal, a crushed cable) and trips before the arc has time to propagate into a panel fire. The diagnostic LED on the toggle gives a local indication of an arc-fault trip versus an overload or short — saves the commissioning engineer a clamp-meter hunt on a nuisance-trip callout.
What the 6 kA Icn / 10 kA Icu means for your panel
The 6 kA Icn (rated short-circuit capacity per EN/IEC 61009-2-1) is the breaker's tested interrupting rating under the MCB standard — it clears a 6 kA fault at 230 V and remains serviceable afterward. The 10 kA Icu (ultimate breaking capacity per EN/IEC 60947-2) is the higher one-shot rating under the industrial standard; the breaker will interrupt a 10 kA fault but may need replacement afterward. For most commercial and light-industrial distribution boards with a prospective fault current under 6 kA, the Icn figure governs the daily duty. The 10 kA Icu gives headroom for a stronger upstream transformer or a closer fault location without cascading. The C-curve (5–10 x In) means the magnetic trip fires between 50 A and 100 A — suitable for general-purpose loads with moderate inrush, like lighting banks, small motor circuits, or socket outlets. The thermal-magnetic trip mechanism is a traditional bimetal + solenoid, field-reliable and predictable.
Cable entry from top or bottom — no forced feed direction, which helps with busbar or loop-through wiring in a crowded enclosure. Pollution degree 2 (non-conductive dust, occasional condensation) per EN/IEC 62606.
