What this 2.6 MW drive brings to a medium-voltage line
The ATV1200A32006666 is a medium-voltage variable speed drive from the Altivar 1200 series, rated for 2675 kW motor power at 3200 kVA apparent power. It is designed for asynchronous motors in heavy industrial applications — pumps, compressors, conveyors, fans — where a 36-pulse diode rectifier bridge keeps harmonic distortion low enough to skip a dedicated line-side filter. Supply voltage range is 2970-3630 V, with a line current of 280 A at full load. The 36-pulse topology means the input current waveform has 36 pulses per cycle, which reduces total harmonic distortion to levels that typically meet IEEE 519 without an external multi-pulse transformer.
Physical footprint and installation constraints
The enclosure is grey RAL 7032. Power connections use M10 bar-type screw terminals with a clamping capacity of 6 x 40 mm² for the /L2/L3 input, with entry from the bottom or top. The control supply is separate: 220 V AC at 3 kVA for the control circuits, and 380 V AC for the cooling fan, with an optional external supply for both.
Overload capacity and protection envelope
The drive supports two overload profiles. Standard overload: 1.2 In for 60 seconds or 1.5 In for 3 seconds. High overload: 1.5 In for 60 seconds or 1.85 In for 3 seconds. The high-overload profile is the one to spec for applications with heavy starting duty or cyclical peak loads — a crusher or centrifuge, for example. Ground fault protection is integrated into the drive. Dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 20 kV AC. The drive meets EN/IEC 61800-3 for EMC (integrated filter), EN/IEC 61800-4 for adjustable speed drives, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1 for electrical safety. Pollution degree 2 per that standard means it is intended for clean, climate-controlled environments — not outdoor or dusty locations without additional enclosure protection.
Control I/O and signal interface
The drive has 4 software-configurable analog inputs accepting 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA with 24 V max and 250 Ohm impedance. One analog output is similarly configurable. Discrete inputs: 6 standard, expandable to 10. The analog and discrete I/O are isolated from the power circuits — electrical isolation between power and control is standard. Speed range is 20-100 %, suitable for variable-torque loads like centrifugal pumps and fans where the minimum speed floor is 20 %. For constant-torque loads requiring a wider speed range, the 20 % floor may be a constraint — check the load profile against the drive's torque capability at low speed. Cooling is forced convection with 43200 m³/h airflow. The noise level is 80 dB — hearing protection is needed within the equipment room.
