Medium-voltage drive for large asynchronous motors
The ATV1200A44406666 is a Schneider Electric Altivar 1200 series medium-voltage AC drive rated for 3712 kW motor power at 2970-3630 V input. It uses a 36-pulse diode rectifier bridge to reduce line-side harmonics below IEEE 519 thresholds without external filters. This drive is designed for large asynchronous motors in applications such as pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors where medium-voltage power conversion is required. The floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows supports installation in industrial electrical rooms.
Input power and harmonic performance
The 36-pulse topology draws 410 A line current at 4440 kVA apparent power, delivering clean input current with low total harmonic distortion. Prospective line short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms, which sets the upstream protection coordination requirement. Supply voltage limits span 2970-3630 V, accommodating typical 3.3 kV industrial distribution systems. The integrated EMC filter meets EN/IEC 61800-3 conducted emission limits without add-on components.
Overload capability and motor protection
Standard overload withstand is 1.2 In for 60 s and 1.5 In for 3 s; high overload mode extends to 1.5 In for 60 s and 1.85 In for 3 s. These profiles allow the drive to handle motor starting and transient overloads without nuisance tripping while coordinating with upstream protection. Ground fault protection is built into the drive, and dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 20 kV AC. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 applies for normal industrial environments.
Physical footprint and site planning
The floor-standing enclosure measures 2740 mm high by 6670 mm wide by 1700 mm deep in standard efficiency configuration; high efficiency adds height to 3040 mm and depth to 1800 mm. Operating position is vertical within ±10 degrees. Forced convection cooling moves 49800 m³/h of air, with a noise level of 80 dB. The cooling fan requires a 380 V AC supply; control electronics need 220 V AC at 3 kVA. Altitude derating applies above 1000 m at 0.6 % per 100 m up to 2000 m.
Control I/O and integration
Four software-configurable analogue inputs accept 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA signals at 24 V max with 250 Ohm impedance. Two analogue outputs mirror the same current ranges. Six discrete inputs are standard, expandable to ten with an option. Electrical isolation between power and control circuits is maintained. The human-machine interface is included as part of the product composition, which also comprises the phase-shifting transformer, power cells, cooling fans, and medium-voltage arrestors.
Compliance and lifecycle
CE marked and compliant with EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3, EN/IEC 61800-4, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1. Overvoltage category II applies per the power interface standard.
