Motor sizing: the ND vs HD split decides your real load
The ATV6B0C35T4 carries two distinct ratings: 550 HP at 480 V in normal duty and 450 HP at 480 V in heavy duty, with corresponding apparent power of 443 kVA ND and 362 kVA HD. Heavy duty typically applies to constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders; normal duty suits variable-torque fans and pumps where the headroom isn't needed. Line current at 480 V is 533 A for normal duty and 436 A for heavy duty. The switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 8 kHz, but above 2.5 kHz a derating factor applies — if you need quieter motor operation at higher carrier frequencies, the output current ceiling drops proportionally. The integrated EMC filter covers 300 m of motor cable per IEC 61800-3 category C3 — that is the second environment (industrial mains). For first-environment (residential) installations, an external filter may be needed.
