What this MCCB delivers
The Schneider Electric C080L42AFM is a ComPacT NS new generation moulded-case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 800 A at 50 °C, with 4 poles and a MicroLogic 2.0 A electronic trip unit providing L (long-time overload) and I (instantaneous short-circuit) protection per EN/IEC 60947-2.
The electronic MicroLogic 2.0 A trip unit gives you adjustable long-time and instantaneous pickup settings, not a fixed thermal curve. Breaking capacity is 150 kA Icu at 220/240 V and 380/415 V AC, 130 kA at 440 V, and 100 kA at 500/525 V AC — all at 50/60 Hz. For a 480 V distribution panel (common in North America), the 100 kA at 500/525 V rating is the relevant figure; verify your available fault current against that. Mechanical durability is 10,000 cycles; electrical durability varies by load — 2,000 cycles at 690 V In, 3,000 at 690 V In/2, 3,000 at 440 V In, and 4,000 at 440 V In/2. That's typical for a fixed-mount distribution breaker not used for frequent switching.
Fixed mounting on a backplate (not DIN rail), with front-connect terminals top and bottom. The 280 mm width, 327 mm height, and 147 mm depth determine the panel cutout and enclosure size — plan for that footprint plus bending space for 800 A cables. IP40 enclosure protection means it's suited for indoor panel installation where no water jets or dust ingress are expected. IK07 impact resistance covers light mechanical shock during handling. Power losses are 20 W at rated current — account for that heat in the enclosure thermal calculation, especially if multiple breakers are ganged.
