Motor protection circuit breaker, magnetic-only trip
The Schneider Electric C10N3MA013 is a ComPacT NSX100N circuit breaker with a magnetic-only (MA) trip unit, rated 12.5 A at 65 °C. It is designed specifically for motor protection, providing short-circuit protection via magnetic sensing without thermal overload elements — the motor starter or overload relay handles the thermal curve. The 3-pole device carries a 50 kA breaking capacity at 415 V AC (Icu per IEC 60947-2), which means it can safely interrupt fault currents up to that level in a 400 V motor branch circuit without upstream coordination failure.
Breaking capacity and application context
The N-frame (NSX100N) delivers 90 kA Icu at 240 V AC and 50 kA at 415 V AC, tapering to 10 kA at 690 V AC. For a 400 V motor panel, the 50 kA symmetrical rating covers most industrial service-entrance and distribution scenarios. The MA trip unit responds only to magnetic faults — set the instantaneous pickup per the motor inrush and the upstream coordination study. Mounts on a backplate, accepts front-front connections, and fits in a 105 mm wide footprint.
Durability and environmental ratings
Rated for 50,000 mechanical cycles and 50,000 electrical cycles at 440 V at half rated current (In/2). Electrical durability drops to 10,000 cycles at 690 V at full In. IP40 front protection and IK07 impact resistance handle typical panel environments. Operating altitude to 2000 m without derating; derate above that per the manufacturer's curve. Power dissipation is 0.63 W per pole — negligible for enclosure thermal calculations.
