The Schneider Electric C16N44V100 is a ComPacT NSX160N moulded-case circuit breaker — a 4-pole, 100 A frame with an electronic MicroLogic 4.2 trip unit.
Trip unit and protection logic
The MicroLogic 4.2 is an electronic trip unit that provides L (long-time overload), So (short-time short-circuit with fixed delay), I (instantaneous short-circuit), and R (earth-leakage) protection. The earth-leakage protection is integrated into the breaker — no external module needed. A 20-minute thermal memory means the breaker remembers a prior overload event and will trip faster on a reclose into a still-hot conductor, which is useful for motor or transformer feeders that see repeated starts.
Breaking capacity across voltages
The C16N44V100 is rated per EN/IEC 60947-2 with the following Icu: 90 kA at 220/240 V AC, 50 kA at 380/415 V AC, 50 kA at 440 V AC, 36 kA at 500 V AC, 35 kA at 525 V AC, and 10 kA at 660/690 V AC. It also carries UL 60947-4-1 ratings: 85 kA at 240 V AC, 50 kA at 480 V AC, and 10 kA at 600 V AC. The utilisation category is A — not intended for current-limiting applications, but suitable for general distribution and feeder protection where selectivity with downstream breakers is designed in.
Physical fit and mounting
Mounts on a backplate in horizontal or vertical orientation, flat on the back. Front connections on both upside and downside. Connection pitch is 35 mm. Neutral is on the left. IP40 protection — suitable for indoor panel installation; IK07 impact resistance.
Durability and operational life
Mechanical durability is 40,000 cycles. Electrical durability varies by load: 40,000 cycles at 440 V at half rated current (In/2), 20,000 cycles at 440 V at full In, 15,000 cycles at 690 V at In/2, and 7,500 cycles at 690 V at full In. These numbers matter for a breaker that sees frequent switching — like a main disconnect on a machine that cycles every shift.
