400 A electronic-trip MCCB with earth-leakage and metering
The Schneider Electric C40H47E400 is a ComPacT NSX400H 4-pole moulded-case circuit breaker with a MicroLogic 7.3 E electronic trip unit rated 400 A at 40 °C. The trip unit provides L (long-time overload), S (short-time short-circuit), I (instantaneous short-circuit), and R (earth-leakage) protection, making it suitable for distribution applications where ground-fault detection is required alongside overcurrent protection. The H breaking capacity code delivers 70 kA Icu at 415 V AC, 100 kA Icu at 240 V AC, and 65 kA Icu at 480 V AC — figures that govern fault-clearing capability at the service-entrance or main switchboard level.
Above that, the electronic trip unit applies an I²t curve for overloads and a fixed-time S curve for short-time faults, with earth-leakage (R) protection adjustable via the IΔn rotary switch. At 690 V AC the Icu drops to 20 kA, so the voltage at the fault point must be confirmed when specifying for 600 V class systems. The MicroLogic 7.3 E also logs time-stamped events, energy metering, and power quality data, which feeds into a building management system without a separate power meter.
At 255 mm high, 185 mm wide, and 110 mm deep, it occupies a standard MCCB footprint in a distribution panel. The 45 mm connection pitch matches common busbar and lug kits. The toggle control and LCD display are accessible from the front, and the six accessory slots accept auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, or communication modules without increasing the panel cutout.
