Switch disconnector for distribution, 1000 A continuous
The Schneider Electric ENW24278 is a 4-pole switch disconnector from the EasyPact NW range, rated 1000 A in AC-23A utilisation category at 690 V AC. Rated for continuous duty, this unit handles motor switching (AC-23A includes frequent starting and stopping of motors) and general load-break duties. The 1000 A rating at 690 V means it can switch high-power loads directly — think large pumps, compressors, or feeder circuits — without derating for the voltage step. The drawout mounting (withdrawal chassis) lets you rack the disconnector out for safe maintenance without disturbing the rear-connected power cables — a standard requirement in switchboard and MCC lineups where panel access is tight.
Fault ratings and withstand
Short-time withstand current (Icw) is 66 kA for 1 second and 36 kA for 3 seconds, both at rated operating temperature. The short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 143 kA peak at 50/60 Hz. These numbers tell you the switch can close onto a fault and hold through a delayed upstream breaker trip — critical for selective coordination in a distribution board.

Dimensions: 556 mm wide, 439 mm high, 395 mm deep. The rear connection pitch is 115 mm without spreader. It mounts on a rail in a drawout cradle — plan for the full depth when sizing the enclosure depth, especially with rear cable exit. Neutral is on the right side (fixed position). Connection is vertical/horizontal at the rear. The contact position indicator is visible on the front — a green/red flag that shows open/closed state without needing to open the door.
