The Schneider Electric GC1610J5 is a TeSys GC modular contactor — a 1-pole, 12 V AC 50 Hz coil device rated for switching motor, lighting, and heating loads under utilisation categories AC-7A and AC-7B per IEC 61095 and IEC 60947-5.
The 12 V AC 50 Hz control circuit is a fixed-voltage coil — not a wide-range electronic coil — so the supply must match within the operating limits: pick-up at 0.85 to 1.1 Uc, drop-out between 0.2 and 0.75 Uc at 50 Hz. Rated breaking and making capacity is 40 A at 400 V AC for the power circuit, which means it can interrupt motor inrush and lighting switching transients within the AC-7 duty envelope. Electrical durability is rated at 100,000 cycles for both AC-7A and AC-7B categories, with mechanical durability at 1,000,000 cycles — the contactor is designed for moderate switching frequency (300 cycles/hour max at 50 °C). Heat dissipation is 1.3 W at 50/60 Hz (0.65 W per pole), which matters for thermal budgeting inside a sealed or tightly packed DIN-rail enclosure.
Clip-on mounting on a standard DIN rail, occupying a single 18 mm module width. The white housing with IP20 finger protection (per VDE 0106) is suitable for enclosed panel installations where the contactor is not directly exposed to washdown or dust. Screw-clamp terminals accept up to 6 mm² flexible or solid on the power circuit, and up to 2.5 mm² on the control circuit. Tightening torque is 0.8 N·m for both — consistent with standard terminal-block tooling on the line.
