S7-200 CPU 224 DC — 14 inputs, 10 outputs, 24 V
The Siemens 6ES7214-1AD23-0XB0 is a CPU 224 DC unit from the S7-200 family, with 14 digital inputs and 10 relay outputs. Programming is supported in LAD, FBD, and STL — the full instruction set including bit logic, timers, counters, integer and floating-point maths, and communications instructions.
Protocols and network integration
The integrated RS 485 interface supports both PPI and MPI protocols. PPI handles program functions and HMI communication (TD 200, OP) at 9.6/19.2/187.5 kbit/s, plus S7-200-internal CPU/CPU data exchange. MPI allows the CPU to act as a slave for data exchange with S7-300/S7-400 CPUs, OPs, and TDs at 19.2/187.5 kbit/s. Maximum cable length is 500 m shielded, 150 m unshielded — enough for most machine-level networks within a panel or across a small line.
I/O and high-speed counting
The 14 inputs are source/sink configurable per group. Six high-speed counters (30 kHz each, 32-bit) can serve as up/down counters or connect two incremental encoders with 90° offset pulse trains at up to 20 kHz (A/B counters). Parameterizable enable and reset inputs, plus interrupt facilities on setpoint reach. Outputs switch from 0 to 1 in max 15 µs (standard) or 2 µs (pulse outputs Q0.0–Q0.1), and from 1 to 0 in max 130 µs (standard) or 10 µs (pulse outputs). Maximum lamp load is 5 W per output.
Memory and backup
Program storage is maintenance-free on integral EEPROM; DB1 data loads from PG/PC to EEPROM, with current values in RAM. Retentive memory bits, timers, and counters are buffered by a high-performance capacitor (min 70 h at 40 °C, typ 100 h). An optional battery module extends backup to 200 days typical. The retentive memory size is adjustable up to 32 bytes. Timers span 1 ms to 54 min across 256 timers (4 at 1 ms–30 s, 16 at 10 ms–5 min, 236 at 100 ms–54 min).
